SUMMARY:Bullskin Benthic Testing
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Bullskin Run will hold a free Stream Partners Benthic Dip demonstration event on Wednesday\, November 16\, 2016 at 1 pm on the Bullskin Run at Cool Spring Reserve\, the new headquarters of the Potomac Valley Audubon Society. Cool Spring Preserve is in southern Jefferson County\, located at 1469 Lloyd Road\, Charles Town WV\, 25414. \nThe Macroinvertebrate Testing demonstration will be conducted by Glenn Nelson from the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection’s office and will be looking for and identifying Benthic macroinvertebrates: animals that are big enough (macro) to be seen with the naked eye that play a critical role in the aquatic food chain\, such as: mayflies\, stoneflies\, caddisflies\, midges\, beetles)\, snails\, worms\,freshwater clams\, mussels\, and crayfish. \nCool Spring Preserve is named after Cool Spring Farm. It was donated to the Potomac Valley Audubon Society by CraftWorks at Cool Spring in 2016. The 12-acre property is open to the public during daylight hours and visitors can enjoy easy walking trails and access to Bullskin Run. The property includes 3 buildings\, nature trails\, and a stream. Much of the land is wooded and includes well-kept walking trails\, a natural amphitheater\, and a campfire circle. \nLight refreshments will be served. Registration is not required but encouraged.
